A little more than a year ago, I wrote a short story (a very short story of about 5 pages) and I titled it "My Ember of Hope." You see, I was going through a very difficult period of time in my life a little more than a year ago.
I was enrolled at a University near my hometown, and my grades were suffering to the point where I was prepared to withdrawal completely from an entire semester of coursework. All over a girl.
I was quite embarrassed about it at the time; but a fact is a fact, and I was suffering emotionally and psychologically over the loss of a relationship that was very dear to my heart. Since that time, I've actually taken course work in the processes of death and dying, and we learned in that class that the loss of a relationship, not necessarily to death can be devastating. So I felt a little less embarrassed after that.
Time heals all, and I recovered well--although that loss did leave me scarred, and in an academically scary position. You see, I'm in an academic "race" per say, or in competition to gain admission into a very selective professional program. All my hopes and all my dreams lay within it. Quite frankly I don't know what I'll do if I don't get in.
But there are several options I have at my disposal, and I plan on exhausting every single one of them to gain admission. So it is my new ember of hope.
Join me on my academic journey, my professional journey, and my personal life journey as I hold my ember of Hope in my hands, clasping it tightly and protecting it from the harsh elements--protecting it from being extinguished.
Because without hope, what do we have?
